The United States Senate did its job yesterday evening, passing the economic recovery legislation by a vote of 74-25. And as the New York Times reports, both of the Senate leaders (Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell) courageously achieved what Nancy Pelosi was unable to do in her House leadership position on Monday:
The two Senate leaders, Senators Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada and the majority leader, and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, strongly urged their colleagues to approve the plan despite the political risk given public resentment.
Significantly, after the Senate vote, according to the NYT, "Representative John Yarmuth, a Kentucky Democrat who on Monday voted no, said he found the new proposal more acceptable."
