It is almost a certainty that William Ayers will be a topic of conversation at tomorrow night's debate. The Boston Globe reports McCain will "take that dare" of Biden to bring up Ayers to Obama's face. It should be entertaining television to watch Obama parse the meaning of the word "pal" and see if he denies that he knew of Ayers terrorist past when he worked with him to dish out $50 million in grants to leftist causes. Oh, and there's also that question of who ghostwrote Obama's first book . . .

Did Ayers Ghostwrite Obama's Book?
Jack Cashill makes a intriguing argument that William Ayers may be the ghost writer for Barack Obama's first book, Dreams From My Father. If Cashill is correct, and Obama has hidden this relationship, the impact on the election could be huge.

From The Bill Ayers Campaign School
Two vandals whom we suspect are not McCain supporters were arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a McCain sign in Portland, Oregon over the weekend. Police put the fire out before it caused any damage. The two men, both aged 23, have been arrested for eight felonies.

The Recurring Question That Obama Needs To Be Asked
Peter Wehner of Commentary Magazine makes the same request of journalists as we did earlier today:
Mark Halperin of Time magazine conducted an intelligent and revealing interview with Robert Gibbs, a senior adviser for Barack Obama’s campaign, which can be seen here.
Mr. Halperin’s question was straightforward. At some point Barack Obama learned that William Ayers was a domestic terrorist and was unrepentant about it, Halperin says, yet at a minimum Obama continued to associate professionally (and perhaps personally) with Ayers after knowing about his past. Halperin then asks if it’s therefore reasonable to conclude that Obama, while having deplored the violent acts of Ayers, felt it was fine to continue to have professional associations with a domestic terrorist. The answer, of course, is yes – and watching Mr. Gibbs squirm and evade that simple, direct question tells you everything you need to know.
One wishes that Senator McCain, or Tom Brokaw, or Bob Schieffer, or Jim Lehrer, or anyone else in the press would ask that same question of Senator Obama, in just the same way that Halperin did. It would be an illuminating response.

Dick Morris On The Obama-Ayers Connection
Dick Morris echoes what we said in an earlier post about the eery resemblance between Senator Obama's dispute that he was a "pal" of William Ayers and President Clinton's quibbling over the meaning of the word "is":
In the best tradition of Bill Clinton’s famous declaration that the answer to the question of whether or not he was having an affair with Monica depended on “what the definition of ‘is’ is,” Barack Obama was clearly splitting hairs and concealing the truth when he said that William Ayers was “just a guy who lives in my neighborhood.”
Morris goes on to explain the literally $50 million tie between Obama and Ayers and how the money was used by the pair to fund radical leftist causes:
After Walter Annenberg’s foundation offered several hundred million dollars to American public schools in the mid-’90s, William Ayers applied for $50 million for Chicago. The purpose of his application was to secure funds to “raise political consciousness” in Chicago’s public schools. After he won the grant, Ayers’s group chose Barack Obama to distribute the money. Between 1995 and 1999, Obama distributed the $50 million and raised another $60 million from other civic groups to augment it. In doing so, he was following Ayers’s admonition to grant the funds to “external” organizations, like American Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to pair with schools and conduct programs to radicalize the students and politicize them.
Reading, math and science achievement tests counted for little in the CAC grants, but the school’s success in preaching a radical political agenda determined how much money they got.
Morris also reiterates what we've been saying -- that Obama must have known of Ayers's notorious past and that Obama's failure to stay as far away as possible from Ayers was a critical lapse of judgment:
Barack Obama should have run screaming at the sight of William Ayers and his wife, Bernadette Dohrn. Ayers has admitted bombing the U.S. Capitol building and the Pentagon, and his wife was sent to prison for failing to cooperate in solving the robbery of a Brink’s armored car in which two police officers were killed. Far from remorse, Ayers told The New York Times in September 2001 that he “wished he could have done more.”
Ayers only avoided conviction when the evidence against him turned out to be contained in illegally obtained wiretaps by the FBI. He was, in fact, guilty as sin.
That Obama should ally himself with Ayers is almost beyond understanding. The former terrorist had not repented of his views and the education grants he got were expressly designed to further them.
But beyond Obama's egregious misjudgment, the connection between Obama and Ayers demonstrates Obama to be one who associates with the most radical left, with real detrimental implications for the country in education and other areas were he to be elected president:
Even apart from the details of the Obama/Ayers connection, two key points emerge:
a) Obama lied and misled the American people in his description of his relationship with Ayers as casual and arm’s-length; and
b) Obama was consciously guided by Ayers’s radical philosophy, rooted in the teachings of leftist Saul Alinksy, in his distribution of CAC grant funds.
Since Obama is asking us to let him direct education spending by the federal government and wants us to trust his veracity, these are difficulties he will have to explain in order to get the votes to win.
Now that Obama is comfortably ahead in the polls, attention will understandably shift to him. We will want to know what kind of president he would make. The fact that, within the past 10 years, he participated in a radical program of political education conceptualized by an admitted radical terrorist offers no reassurance.
The question that the McCain-Palin campaign has posed regarding Obama -- Who is this man? -- remains unanswered. But Morris's summary of Obama's connections in Chicago provides some insight:
So let’s sum up Obama’s Chicago connections. His chief financial supporter was Tony Rezko, now on his way to federal prison. His spiritual adviser and mentor was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, of “God damn America” fame. And the guy who got him his only administrative job and put him in charge of doling out $50 million is William Ayers, a terrorist who was a domestic Osama bin Laden in his youth.
. . . .
Why did Obama put up with Ayers? Because he got a big job and $50 million of patronage to distribute to his friends and supporters in Chicago. Why did he hang out with Jeremiah Wright? Because he was new in town, having grown up in Hawaii and Indonesia and having been educated at Columbia and Harvard, and needed all the local introductions he could get to jump-start his political career. Why was he so close to Rezko?
Because he funded Obama’s campaigns and helped him buy a house for $300,000 less than he otherwise would have had to pay.
Not a good recommendation for a president.

McCain-Palin Campaign's New Ad On Obama-Ayers
The McCain-Palin campaign has released a new internet advertisement addressing Obama and William Ayers. See it here. This is the big news, noted below, that was promised to be released today.

The Questions For Obama About Ayers: What Did He Know And When Did He Know It?
Those two famous questions asked of President Nixon about Watergate should be asked by any responsible reporter of Senator Obama about William Ayers:
What did Obama know about Ayers and when did he know it?
Unfortunately, it does not appear that Charlie Gibson asked either question in his latest interview of Obama.
Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times nails the issue squarely. As she explains:
On Monday, Obama chief strategist David Axelrod said Obama was not aware of Ayers' terrorist background when he attended a political coffee at Ayers Hyde Park home at the beginning of his state senate race sometime in the fall of 1995. Ayers and Obama first crossed paths in 1995 while involved in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation dealing with urban education issues.
So the question is--I'm just curious and I wonder about this as one who has defended Obama's association with Ayers, the education expert (not Ayers, the terrorist)---when did Obama finally learn about the Weather Underground background of Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn?
Once Obama knew that Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist, he should have disassociated himself immediately from the man. Obama's failure to do so -- until called on it during the presidential election -- speaks volumes as to his lack of good judgment.
It strains credibility that Obama -- being the Harvard Law School graduate that he is -- was so stupid as to associate with Ayers without knowing all of his friend's sordid past. That's why it is so important that Obama should be asked and made to answer those two questions.

Bruce Can Produce Ayers's Flick
Unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers is trying to leverage his connection to Barack Obama into a Hollywood film.
Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, which bombed the Pentagon (among other places) in the 1960s and led to the death of a police officer. These days, he is a Chicago professor and dabbles in politics -- including launching Obama's first run for office.

According to Politico,
Director John Hancock finished writing the screenplay titled "Fugitive Days" over the summer with longtime partner Dorothy Tristan, and his agent has just begun sending it to producers and production companies. Adapted from Ayers' 2001 memoir of the same name, the script has received "nibbles but no bites," said Hancock, who is hoping to direct the film if it is eventually produced.
We don't know if Bruce Lunsford is among those who have "nibbled" on the script. Lunsford, in between running for assorted offices is a genuine Hollywood movie producer. Thus the need for his private jet: it would so embarrassing to fly commercial to Sundance.
