Bruce Can Produce Ayers's Flick

Unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers is trying to leverage his connection to Barack Obama into a Hollywood film.

Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, which bombed the Pentagon (among other places) in the 1960s and led to the death of a police officer. These days, he is a Chicago professor and dabbles in politics -- including launching Obama's first run for office.

According to Politico,

Director John Hancock finished writing the screenplay titled "Fugitive Days" over the summer with longtime partner Dorothy Tristan, and his agent has just begun sending it to producers and production companies. Adapted from Ayers' 2001 memoir of the same name, the script has received "nibbles but no bites," said Hancock, who is hoping to direct the film if it is eventually produced.

We don't know if Bruce Lunsford is among those who have "nibbled" on the script. Lunsford, in between running for assorted offices is a genuine Hollywood movie producer. Thus the need for his private jet: it would so embarrassing to fly commercial to Sundance.

Celebrities Pay Indecent Price To Schmooze With Obama

Acccording to ABC News, Obama's $28,500-a-head Holloywood fundraiser was held last night at the Greystone Mansion. The price of the ticket in exchange for access to a presidential candidate brought to mind the title of one of the many movies that have been filmed at the Mansion: "Indecent Proposal".

Please note: The postings of "G. Morris", written by John K. Bush and which end in 2016, stated his views as of the dates of posting and should not be understood as current assertions of his views. The postings, which have not been altered since they came to an end, remain on this blog to preserve the historical record. In 2017, Mr. Bush took a position that precludes further public political comments or endorsements. He will no longer be contributing to this blog.

Sean Penn Pontificates From Cannes; Obama Cringes

Not many actors depart from the DNC's talking points, and Sean Penn illustrates why it's dangerous to go off-script.

Speaking from the Cannes Film Festival, where he has been appointed "president of the jury," Penn called Barack Obama's voting record “phenomenally inhuman and unconstitutional.” It's true that Obama has the most liberal voting record in the Senate. If anyone can explain how it is inhuman or unconstitutionall, let me know.

Penn grew more confused, or confusing, as he continued to opine on Obama:

"I hope that he will understand, if he is the nominee, the degree of disillusionment that will happen if he doesn't become a greater man than he will ever be,” Penn said.

What? How does Obama "become a greater man than he will ever be"? This is why the writers' strike shut down Hollywood: actors like Penn cannot write their own material.

To the extent that Penn is calling Obama an empty suit, I disagree. Obama is highly intelligent. His refusal to tell us what he actually thinks -- as opposed to relying on vacuous platitudes like "change" and "hope" -- is downright deceitful. Obama knows exactly what he'd like to do as president, but he also knows that if he ever actually tells us, he won't win.

Consequently, Penn is correct that some, maybe many Obama supporters will become disillusioned if Obama ever gets an opportunity to "change" who knows what. Obama's campaign has been a Rorschach test; voters see whatever they want, because he has never provided any substance to contradict their fantasy of who he is.
