President Bush delivers his address today at a symposium on "The Presidency and the Courts" co-sponsored by the Federalist Society and the John M.
Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs of
Ashland University. Bush criticized the partisan politics that have entered the judicial confirmation process and prevented well qualified nominees such as Miguel Estrada from being confirmed to the federal bench. In contrast, Senator Joe
Biden cited with apparent pride during the vice presidential debate last week that he brought political considerations into the determination of whether to vote to confirm a judicial nominee. Bush called for Democrats to act in a bipartisan fashion to confirm his remaining judicial nominees in the final days of this Congress. We are not holding our breath on that one.
