Via Politico, check out this YouTube ad from Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. The object of the ad is not McConnell's opponent, Bruce Lunsford. Rather, the ad targets Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Politico assumed that Schumer gets the limelight because he heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. And although that's true, Kentucky politicos will recall that it was Schumer who persuaded Andrew Horne to drop out of the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. And it was Schumer who then flattered Lunsford into running.
Schumer's original plan was to use Lunsford who (unlike Horne) could self-fund his campaign, thereby saving the DSCC cash that it could then spend in other races.
Now Schumer is getting greedy; he is salivating at the prospect of a filibuster-proof Senate majority. The DSCC is also flush with cash from investment banks -- $45 million over the last two election cycles. How ironic, therefore, that the DSCC ad against McConnell attempts to tie McConnell to Wall Street. But then again, the Democrats have experienced a certain amount of amnesia during housing mortgage crisis -- even forgetting that the "deregulation" that they now claim to hate passed by a huge bipartisan majority; it was even supported by Schumer and company, and signed by Bill Clinton.
